A quick rewind…

Two young talented twenty one year olds – Ashwin and Joel. Great friends, one enduring passion-  Music. The product- a fabulous music album ‘Mog Asom’.

Ashwin Xavier was born on 28th September 1985, in Vittal to Mr & Mrs. Alwyn and Cecilia Pinto. Having completed his primary schooling in Vittal and Puttur, he moved to Mangalore and is a recent graduate from St. Aloysius College . He has composed music for the Konkani devotional album “Kaliz Tujem  Mandir Mujem”, a Kannada album, a background score for documentaries, and composed  theme music for events organized in the college. An active member of college music club, he has won accolades at the State Level Inter-collegiate fests in singing, music and dancing. He is a member of a beat group since 2002 and has been an active member of YCS.

Joel Maxwell Rebello, son of Mr. & Mrs. Joachim & Mary Rebello from Puttur was born on 14th December 1986, a fresh graduate from St. Philomena College. He was among the top five singers in a Talent hunt contest in South Canara,an active member of college music club, won prizes in State level Inter-collegiate fests in singing and is a member of a beat group since 2002.

Music is their first love. They have participated in music competitions at the school, parish and college level and have been successful. While studying at St. Philomena’s College in Puttur, they have played the keyboard and other instruments for all the College programs.

Pax (Ashwin) and Joe play for Expressions, a beat group that started out in 2003 with a group of like minded students.

Expressions is dedicated to the youth of today and the music is basically western with a blend of Mangalorean and Goan Konkani. The other members of this group are Cletus, Clement,  Shwetha,  Merwyn  and Darrel (who joined this group as a drummer at the age of 15).

It all began when Joe and Pax came across two brothers Cletus and Clement, when they were studying and playing music in the college.

One of Cletus’s neighbors once asked them to sing at their Roce party. The audience was impressed by their performance and the boys continued to sing during the functions in their neighborhood. Their obsession and love for music evolved into an exceptionally fitting symbol for a band that was later named as “Expressions”. Inspired by the success of Expressions, a new band called “Serenades” was formed, dedicated to Western Music and they also continued their shows “Pax n joe’s”.

The group members are on the verge of following different career paths and will soon be separated. With the motive of keeping their friendship and the memories of their group alive, Pax and Joe have decided to preserve  them in the form of a music album “Mog Asom”. Three popular singers have rendered their voices towards this album ”“ Remo Fernandes, Usha Uthap and Gurukiran.  “Mog Asom” is the first of its kind in Konkani music. The recording of Usha Uthup’s voice was done at Sandesha and the mastering of the album was done in Bangalore.

Alex  Madtha, Benet D’Cunha and Lynette have written the lyrics and music has been composed by Ashwin. The main intention of the album is to create an interest of Konkani music amongst the youth, while retaining the original flavour thus catering to both the young and old Konkani music lovers.

“This is our first Album and we need support from everyone. We are planning to pursue our further education while we continue our passion for music” say Ashwin and Joel.  They are grateful to their sponsors and their family members for their unstinted support and for making this album possible.
